I’ve been home canning for several years, and I am still always on the lookout for tools and techniques to make my canning season easier and less tedious.
Chief Crazy Captain Christo appeared after The Ra vens had left town, and cornered Vikings Coach Brad Childress. With a wild eyed southern drawl, C.C.C.Christo spoke his peace and these were the exact words spoken
C.C.C.Christo-” Coach B. Child- Bring Me The Mullet!”
C.B.Child replied, ” After the games, you have to have a press pass to talk to our players. So if you’ll excuse me, I have to go address the press.”
With a loud roar as if you were on Safari in Omaha Nebraska, Chief Crazy Captain Christo snorted,
” Nonsense! You bring The Mullet to me! Tell him Munko Christo is waiting no more. He must hear the STORY!”
Coach Brad Childress stormed off into the locker room and within sixty nine seconds, The Mullet appreared. He stood before Chief Crazy Captain Christo ( Author’s note: although he is Chief Crazy Captain Christo, he is disguised as Munko Christo!) Jared Allen looked pissed. He stared and glared at Munko Christo until Munko Christo raised a Raven’s Claw.
J.All- ” Yeah, who the hell are you and what do you want?”
Mu. Ch-” I am Munko Christo and I would like to share an orange with you. Please watch carefully.
Hold out your hand Jared.”
Before Jared could blink an eye, the orange was sliced into four perfect quarters, with each quarter resembling the shape of a football. Just then, the Vikings three quarterbacks showed up as if by a simple twist of fate. Number 2, Number 4 and Number 7. They all faced Munko Christo and asked Jared if he needed any help.
J.All- ” Nope, this guy is just sharing an Orange with me”
Number 4 spoke up- ” Hey Jared, get this guy outta here, I’d like to have a word with you about today’s game.”
Mu.Ch.-” The Mullet and I would like to ask you ,Number 4, to play along here. Ok as you can see there are four perfect slices of orange here. Each one of you guys take a slice and put it in your mouth like a mouth guard.”
Each of the players did so, except when Number 4 reached for his slice, Munko Christo swiftly reached out and duct taped Number 4′s mouth with silver tape. The tape had a slit in it for the orange slice to fit. The picture was perfect. All four players had a perfect quarter slice of orange in their mouth, and they all agreed that it tasted great! It was only after Munko Christo had left the scene, did the players notice that Number Four had silver around his mouth piece. They all shared a good laugh and agreed that Munko Christo must be on to something big. But what was he trying to teach the players with just an orange.
Out of the blue, the four players who had just been visited by Munko Christo shouted in unison,
” Hey Munko Christo, what were you trying to teach us with the Orange?”
Floating on the wind came back the reply,
” The Orange grows twenty four seven. Until you each tasted a perfect quarter from one orange you didn’t believe the taste of victory could be so sweet. Now you know. And hey Jared Allen! Take the tape off the Silver Fox and what do you get? I’ll give you a hint. I changed the words from a song called Silvio by a Minnesotan. It goes like this: …..” Silvio, Purple and Gold won’t buy back the beat of a heart grown cold. Super Bowl I gotta go Down to Miami where The Mullet grows ( Legendary!)
All of a sudden a note appeared in Jared Allen’s hand. It read,” I found the perfect place for you and your teammates if you wish to help out. The Great Pumpkin is branching out to help Childhood diabetes with Horse rides for children of all ages . Please contact the author of this installment of The Great Pumpkin Letter. Way to go Jared! Together we can make a difference!.
Jared knew it was from Munko Christo and agreed that as crazy as he may be, his heart is in the right place. Help on The Way! What say you Jared?

Discussion: I believe the local gas pressure is 4 psi., but I’m not sure. Maybe it’s .4 psi. Anybody out there who knows what is typical? At any rate, I remember (from the last time I did this, boo-koo years ago) that the the new orifice was somewhat larger than the original, but that’s where the old grey matter just quit on me. Any comments? Suggestions? Anything?
Discussion: It’s just a regular run of the mill BBQ sauce but now it’s fantastic after cooking the pork.
I was thinking of adding a can of black-eyed peas, raw white rice and some precooked wild rice to the pot full of sauce with maybe some fried onions.
Will THAT work? What spices should I add? Maybe try going towards a chili tasking kind of concoction?

Discussion: BBQ sauce is my favorite condiment, & they have tomatoes in it. Would it harm me? I hope not. What about tomato paste for spaghetti & meatballs?

For a few years now, the farmers of Salento in Apulia have been harvesting their vegetables for the Muscella brothers, founders of the preserve-making company, Sapori del Salento (Tastes of Salento). The lampascioni, shallot-like bulbs of the wild hyacinth plant, which grow profusely all over Apulia, are one of the most prized delicacies of this region. They can taste overbearingly bitter, but the lampascioni by Sapori del Salento are an exception: crunchy, savoury, smooth and rounded, with an exceptionally fine aftertaste of almonds. Hand picked as soon as fully ripe, they are immediately peeled and cleaned, chargrilled, and put in jars with olive oil. Delicious as a starter, they are also an ideal accompanime… More >>
